Best 10 Windows Laptop Review

I have owned several laptops in my lifetime. I’ve owned HP, Dell, Apple (Mac) and Acer. I have to say that I’m always coming back to HP because they are well built and long lasting. The Victus Laptop by HP is no different. The Victus is a lightweight (5 lbs), solidly build piece of technology. Of course there are always “downsides” to every computer, and every computer doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, yet the Victus is good at hitting many of my check-box needs. The size of the screen is a perfect 15.6″. The keyboard is nearly perfect with its full keyboard, including the numbered keypad. For some reason I struggled to find the power button, as it is mixed in with the other keyboard keys. The start-up speed is exceptional. The running speed is average, and many gamers would complain that it’s too slow (and I may have to agree that it’s not up to speed when gaming). The memory is adequate for a laptop. Sound is equal or slightly better than most other laptops on the market. Graphics…well, are adequate, yet not exceptional, as I had hoped and expected from a laptop marketed as “gaming”. The Victus comes loaded with Windows 11, which is the new and up and coming OS that all computers will be coming with soon. Yet I’m not completely sold on Windows 11 yet, as there are bugs that still need to be worked out prior to the big roll out. Generally I keep my laptop plugged in when I’m using it, yet wanted to check battery life, so I went unplugged for a while to see how the battery performed. I wasn’t highly impressed, and would recommend plugging in whenever possible. I like the light-up keyboard, yet would like color options instead of just white or off. Like I initially said, there are “pros” and “cons” found in all computers; nothing is totally perfect unless you build it yourself. However, the Victus by HP is definitely a good laptop that will meet most everyone’s needs and will last for a long time.

Review of Microsoft Surface 4 laptop, 15 inch and Surface 4, 13.5 inch, (16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD models). I use both the 15 inch and the 13.5 inch models of the Surface 4, and they have a similar specification apart from the overall size, screen size, pixel count, and weight. And the price. When connected to a UHD 4k TV by HDMI, the 15 inch produces a larger picture, occupying most of the TV screen. Surface 4: 15 inch, black matte: 2496 x 1664 pixels, weight approx. 1.6 kg Smooth metal hand-rest around the keyboard. Surface 4: 13.5 inch, ice blue 2256 x 1504 pixels, weight approx. 1.3 kg Alcantara-covered hand-rest around the keyboard, a bit more comfortable to use. Both have the 11th generation Intel Core I-7 processor, with four cores and eight logical processors. Both have 16 GB of RAM, and a nominally 512 GB SSD, which the system reports as about 476 GB with about 420 GB free. The specifications are more than adequate for most everyday purposes, and the laptops tackle them very quickly. The display is very sharp and clear and both have touch screens; because the trackpad is excellent I don’t find myself using the touchscreen very often. Both of these are slim and elegant laptops, with a solid feel due to aluminium cases, excellent keyboards and good sound within the limits of a laptop. Construction and finish is of a high standard. Windows 11 runs fast, starts up quickly, and handles everyday tasks with ease. Web browsing including YouTube works perfectly. The battery life seems quite decent, around 12 hours or so of web browsing, and the battery charges quickly from the supplied charger. I particularly value the fact that Microsoft 365, (which I use on a desktop computer as well) and therefore Microsoft One Drive, run excellently on these two laptops. The built in expansion ports are limited, as has been commented upon elsewhere, but are actually adequate for my purposes. A dock is available if more ports are needed. The 15 inch laptop is connected to my TV, and has a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, so I can sit some distance away and view the big display. The 13.5 inch laptop is used as a portable browsing device, replacing an iPad.

3.Microsoft Surface Pro x SQ1 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD (Platinum)

First, regarding the service and the quality of the product delivery – it looks like new. Absolutely clean, no scratches, fingerprints etc. As expected, this is what “factory recertified” means. All proper Microsoft labels confirming the status of the recertified product. So, do not be concerned about this part, you are getting like-new device. The warranty status shows the warranty only till September but it seems this can be fixed by contacting Microsoft support and providing them the sales receipt. This is the 1st gen Pro X, not the current one, but the difference is not that significant. And, yes, you can update it to Windows 11, I have done it successfully. As for the product itself, do your own research. Personally I got it as a toy, I hope to use it mainly as tablet for running Linux apps via WSL2, not as laptop replacement. And make sure you understand what you are getting into with SQ1 processor, which is ARM. For the sale price I think it is a good deal, but I would certainly not pay the full retail price for it myself.

4.Microsoft Surface Go 3 – 10.5″ Touchscreen – Intel Core i3 – 8GB Memory – 128GB

I got this tablet because my previous Surface finally quit after 5 or so years of faithful service. I love the Surface, including this one, and it does what I need it to do. Having said that, however, there are some noticeable glitches: • Sometimes (perhaps 10% of the time I use it) the camera doesn’t work and the internal software can’t find it. There don’t seem to be any solutions to this other than restart and hope it works. • Many of the emojis that I used in Windows 10 to code my notes apparently do not exist in Windows 11. If they DO exist, for some reason this tablet won’t display them as anything other than empty squares. And many of the ones that DO transfer over are no longer in color. My green checkmarks are now gray. My Red X’s are black. My parchment-colored scroll is gray. My stop sign is an empty box. I am hoping a future update will correct this, but so far that hasn’t happened. • I don’t like the Start menu AT ALL. The icons are tiny and (as far as I know) non-customizable. I really miss the live tiles that were such a wonderful feature of Windows 10. (I realize that this is a Windows 11 issue, not a Surface Go issue, but if anyone purchases the Surface Go they will be using Windows 11) On the whole, this Surface Go 3 gets the job done reasonably smoothly. I recommend it, but it will certainly not replace my desktop computer — or even a laptop. I very much hope that the issues addressed above will be addressed, but even if they’re not it’s still an OK product. 3 stars.

Garbage. Constantly have to disconnect and reconnect the WiFi because it randomly stops working. Have tried on multiple networks and always has the same results. Bluetooth is the same. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting isn’t enough and the computer has to be restarted as well. I have to use either headphones or speakers because the speakers on the computer do not get loud at all. Any background noise will dilute the little bit of sound it creates. I bought this just as something to use at hotels when out for work and for online classes mostly. There are other issues as well, including freezing and the mouse pad not working/glitching. Now I wish I would’ve just spent the $500 or so on something else. But most of the reviews are good so I said why not try it. I’ve nearly thrown it off the balcony many days. They shouldn’t even be able to sell such junk for the price. Spend the extra money on another laptop or even a tablet. I’m currently waiting on a new arrival. This one will not be sold or given away because I do not believe anyone should have to deal with these problems.

7.Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Laptop, 15.6″ Screen, Intel Core i3, 8GB Memory, 256GB Solid …

Featured Comment

After possibly 6 months of learning and shopping for a 15 inch laptop, I am very happy to say that I made the right choice with this IdeaPad 5, with i7 and 16 GB RAM. I am not a professional reviewer, but here it goes. Overall Appearance & Feel The appearance is elegant and sleek. The case does not feel cheap and the friction on the lid allows you to position the lid angle anywhere from 0° (closed) to about 160° and holds strong. There are a significant amount of interface ports. However, it did NOT come with the charging port as shown in the photos and description. You can only charge using the only available UCB-C port and provided high-power charger – a typical USB-C plug-in charger will not charge the device. The keys could have a bit more stroke, but not too bad. They have a very minimal “tactile” feeling. One issue is the backslash key is nearly aligned against the top edge of the “Enter” key thus is is often inadvertently pressed. Why did they place the keys edge-to-edge? The trackpad is flawless, feels great and recognizes all gestures. However, I mostly use a Bluetooth mouse. The touchscreen works well. However, it often just stops working and requires either a reboot or go to Device Manager to disable and re-enable the HID Touchscreen device to get it working again. This happens maybe twice a week and is frustrating, but have not found a solution other than the manual remedy mentioned above. The camera on top of the lid has a mechanical shutter which I really like for privacy. Performance This laptop has no latency issues when using any of the basic office productivity applications, streaming videos, and web browsing. I can keep MANY apps open at once without any performance degradation. Start-up is extremely fast; the app-loading and commands are nearly instant, Amazing! The speed of this laptop is very impressive. It only takes about 5 seconds to start Windows from shutdown, I assume only if Windows “Fast Startup” is enabled, which it is. The finger print ID directly on center with the power button works flawlessly. I use it exclusively during login, I don’t even remember my established password. Battery Excellent battery life. Windows automatically goes to sleep upon lid close, which is standard. Upon opening, you will need to enter your password or scan your fingerprint to unlock. I keep it generally plugged in, so not sure of full battery life. Sound Not impressive, but just ok for a 15 inch laptop. I am an audiophile so I would never listen to music on this thing. Connectivity More ports than other competition. I was especially looking for a full size SD Card reader because I do a lot of photo and video editing from SD Card storage. VERY DISAPPOINTING and MISLEADING that the laptop does not come with a dedicated charging jack, as shown in the image and description. The charging is done on the ONLY available USB-C port, thus you cannot simultaneously connect USB-C device while plugged-in. When not plugged in, I believe this port can deliver power to other mobile devices. Display Just ok. The brightness is not so good. For example, don’t expect to do much work on a sunny day working in a park. My house has lots of windows and screen contents hard to see. The screen could be brighter. I’m not a gamer, so, otherwise, it suits me fine. Final Thoughts I would recommend this laptop for students and professionals, but not for serious gamers or graphic and video editing. I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of use.

8.Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Tablet – 13″ – Core i5 – 8 GB Ram – 256 GB SSD

Goodbye Apple / Portability We struggled with iPads and Macs for a long time. We love to travel, so we found ourselves carrying many lightning cables for our iphones, iPads and kids’ iPads. What was frustrating is that after spending 1800 CHF on an iPad Pro, I could not do basic things like put two photos next to each other and make a screenshot of them as one photo. This is ideal for scanning IDs. Each time we sat in the garden at home and went through out photos, we had to bring the iphones, iPads and macs outside with us. Photo editing on the iPad is still limited. Amazing apps like Luminar Neo are missing and photoshop iPad is lacking many features. The new Stage Manager on the MacBook blocks the desktop and on the iPad it is nowhere near a desktop experience. Surface Pro 7 Experience After bad experiences with the SP7 we were skeptical, but our frustration with apple drove us to try the SP8. This device is nothing short of brilliant. We ordered the base model for 750 CHF after a wonderful experience in the first days, we bought a second one and sold our MacBook Pro 14. Windows 11 / Surface Pro 8 / Microsoft Edge The 120Hz display is amazing, you could stare into this display all day. Windows Hallo is significantly improved. Microsoft Edge is a dream, it opens Pdfs and lets you annotate them, now thumbnails have been added. It is smooth and way better than the annotating experience on the iPad. For years I kept coming back to the iPad because android and windows could not provide something reasonable to annotate Pdfs directly from the cloud. Microsoft has done it. Photo Editing / Lightroom We have about 30’000 photos in our lightroom CC (not lightroom classic) catalog. Lightroom on this base model is so smooth. The default windows app has been improved but is still a joke. Nothing beats Apple Photos for semi pros and amateurs when it comes to organizing photos (smart albums, etc.). However, Lightroom, CC syncs across all devices and is amazing.

As a student looking to convert to a more digital format in terms of notes and schoolwork, this laptop is great! I’ve had it several months now and I use it with a surface pen to take notes with it as if it was a regular pen-and-paper notebook. The processor and graphics card also allow me to run all of my favorite video games smoothly without any technical difficulties. It is a large computer and is a bit more heavier than I would’ve preferred, but overall that’s something I’m willing to sacrifice to be able to have everything in one place. The only real grudge I have with it is the battery life. If you’re not running anything particularly battery consuming (ie. video games) it usually can last a few hours. However, be prepared to watch your battery levels drop when you play even 5 minutes of your favorite PC game. Overall, if you’re looking for a tablet-computer that can handle heavy loads and is a bit less pricey compared to it’s Apple and Dell counterparts, this computer might just become your next best friend.

10.Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 13.3 inch Laptop – Intel Core i5 – 8GB Memory – 256GB SSD …

My last laptop finally died 6 hours before the due date for my first PhD final exam. Post Black Friday sales, every store was sold out, but BB came through with an amazing open box deal on this laptop. So I was able to buy what I wanted instead of a laptop with the barebones necessities. Merry Christmas to me! Unboxing was effortless and without charging the laptop, it had a few hours of life right out of the box. The battery life on this 360 is amazing! I use this all day and have no problem if I forget my charger at home. It is fast with multiple programs running and the sleep feature saves a lot of battery life for when I get busy with clients and am no longer actively typing or working. Bonus is my cellphone cable will charge this laptop if I get in a bind, go Team Samsung! I’m not an Apple fan, but have an iPad and Apple Pencil for work. The s-pen is so much smoother than the Apple Pencil is with my iPad, I only wish GoodNotes was available on Samsung. The reason I gave this computer 4 stars and not 5 is because this laptop is soo thin and light, you almost forget you’re holding a computer. I’m a therapist that works with kids, so I got a screen protector immediately, but had to trim it because this screen has no edge and the 2-in-1 tablet feature a 15.6″ screen protector was too big. I also keep it in a reinforced sleeve because this laptop wasn’t cheap, I wish Samsung would come out with a hard case for the 360 Pro, it would help with the mouse pads issues I experience. Speaking of the mouse pad, getting to know the quirks of this mouse pad was tricky. I was getting phantom clicks and highlights, with it sitting on uneven services or holding it my lap. Even on a flat tabletop, if you have the laptop towards the edge, if the entire underside of the mousepad is not supported (less than an inch off the edge), you will experience the above issues. I found out this happens because the laptop itself is soo thin, that it registers pressure from underneath. So I always keep it on one of those hard lap desks, to give it support and help me protect it from grabbing it at possible weak points. It’s a little frustrating when I have to carry it something else while using it, because the keyboard is a little too flexible for my liking. I got this with Windows 11, which got rid of tablet mode, but there is a function key to disable the mouse pad, I just wish is that Samsung made the function key to lock the entire keyboard when it’s folded like a tablet. Because I did not research this extensively before buying it, my last complaint is that there are no longer any USB ports or HDMI ports, only type C’s. So I had to buy a few adapters, but it’s hasn’t been too big of an adjustment. Otherwise I still love this laptop, and if you can deal with its quirks, I highly recommend this if you use other devices in the Samsung ecosystem.
