Best 10 Gaming Keyboard Review

1.HyperX Alloy Origins 60 – Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Featured Comment

Any keyboard enthusiast that isn’t 18 years old will tell you about how amazing this keyboard is for the value, and they are absolutely right! This keyboard feels beyond premium when compared to other 60% keyboards made by razer, Corsair, and Ducky. Their red switches feel very smooth and the PBT caps have a soft touch to them compared to a gritty texture of other keyboards. Hyper X is the same company that teamed up with a ducky for their special edition 60% keyboard and included a lot of features from the mecha mini on this 140$ model. Now despite all the pro’s to this keyboard there are some things that you should keep in mind. It is not hot swappable, the switched and soldered to the mother board so they aren’t the easier to swap. Another con is that the stabilizers are rattley which is apparent when playing. However, all in all this is a fantastic keyboard with excellent form fact for gaming with maximize desk/mouse space. It is aesthetically pleasing and has performance on par with keyboards twice it’s price. Avoids listening to people saying that the red switches were “crappy” as they are still to this date one of the most sold switches out there! Cheers!

2.SteelSeries Apex 7 TKL Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Featured Comment

Steel series keyboards have yet to disappoint me. I upgraded from the Apex 3 to the Apex 7 TKL so I could have a mechanical keyboard as well as a smaller keyboard without the number pad. The red switches are clicky and responsive but not obnoxiously loud and clacky. I use this keyboard primarily for FPS games as well as some typing for different work purposes. Super responsive for gaming and pleasant to type on if you’re a fan of mechanical keyboards. The RGB software is super easy to use and has tons of pre set animation, color profiles, etc. Single key illumination is cool so you can program specific keys to specific colors. Really sturdy and quality made. I personally like the rubbery, harder, wrist wrest but I know some people don’t like that it’s not soft. But it’s super easy to put on and take off thanks to being magnetic so I love it as a feature. Honestly don’t think you can go wrong with this keyboard, I have loved it since I bought it!

3.Razer Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless Optical Gaming Keyboard (Linear Red Switch)

Featured Comment

I am really impressed with Razer and their ability to churn out keyboards like this that feel as good to type on as they look. This 60% Huntsman keyboard provides an excellent option for hardcore gamers or typists who prefer a smaller keyboard, are space limited, or like to take their keyboard on the go. 60% is an interesting experience if you have never used one before. 60% are the embodiments of practicality when it comes to keyboard usability, and they leave you so much room on your desk. This keyboard departs from the previous Huntsman Mini model given that it comes with Razer’s new analog optical switches which allow for scalable levels of input. This allegedly provides more accurate button presses and more precise movement of the key through the keystroke. I have owned and test nearly a dozen keyboards now, and I am just going to say in perfect honesty that I have difficulty telling the difference between the keystrokes on this other red switch linear keyboards I have had in the past. I would say that if anything, I am noticing finer, more precise movements when I play my favorite competitive shooter, Hunt Showdown. I am able to “wiggle” the character side to side while peeking windows with greater ease and finer side to side movements than on my current daily driver Roccat Pyro keyboard. That does add a competitive advantage and I can honestly directly say the keystrokes on the Huntsman Mini analog are directly responsible for that. Other aspects of this Razer keyboard go along familiar Razer product experiences. The packaging is excellent and feels premium and you get a detachable, braided USB-C cable. The keyboard itself shows attention to detail with a nice matte finish, and the RGB is fully controlled with Razer Synapse software which has markedly improved over the years since my first Razer Keyboard in 2018. The only comment I will make is that the RGB on this keyboard is quite dim on full brightness compared to my Razer Goliathus Chroma mousepad that sits right next to it in my current gaming setup. Altogether, I think this keyboard is going to appeal to the hardcore, minimalist PC gamers who want the build and precision of a Razer keyboard without giving up on the precision or control of the actual keystrokes. I would give this keyboard 5 stars for that genre of user, but I would say for anyone that isn’t in need of a 60% keyboard with as fine of switches as these, you will find better, more featured options at this price point. Thanks for reading and good luck with your purchase!

4.Razer Huntsman Elite Keyboard

Featured Comment

I bought this keyboard to use with my workstation. I do a lot of work in product design and prototyping, from 3D modeling, to graphic design and simple animations, to programming microcontrollers. I had completely worn out my 2013 Black Widow and decided to try the optical switch technology included in the Huntsman Elite. BUT, I absolutely have to have a lighted keyboard and need a single color displayed all of the time. My 2013 Black Widow used green LEDs and I was hoping I could get the Huntsman Elite to look similar. AND THEN I RAN INTO THE BRICK WALL OF THE RAZER SYNAPSE SOFTWARE! What a bloated, intrusive bunch of code that is! There is no way to set the color on the keyboard to a single color without using Synapse. I absolutely will not run that software on my workstation. After two days of trying to live with it I uninstalled it. Come on Razer, surely you can build a simple option that allows a user to set a single color and not have eight different sets of code running in the background! As far as the keyboard is concerned, out of the box it’s pretty disappointing. The keys lack the type of lubrication they ought to have to allow them to function as well as they might. Look online and see what some of the keyboard hackers have done to make the keys perform to their potential. I don’t have the time, or desire, to pull this thing apart and do what Razer should have done in the first place, especially when I can’t get the lighting set the way I want it without the bloat and intrusion of Synapse. There are some open source work arounds that I could download and use to achieve the lighting that I want. And then I could run a small script at startup to boot a lighting profile developed with one of the open source methods. That would get the job done, maybe. But I am not impressed enough with the keyboard to go to that kind of trouble. I’ll give this one away to someone who wants to tinker with it. I think I’ll just pick up a Logitech 845 with blue cherry switches and be done with this one. The Huntsman Elite was a total disappointment for me.

5.Razer Ornata V2 Gaming Keyboard

Featured Comment

I want to give this a better review, but I can’t. I just replaced my first generation Ornata chroma with the same thing, because I loved it so much. It felt mechanical, with shorter key caps, a little quiter, a nice finish, etc. Perfect keyboard. Unfortunately… the quality of the new one is significantly worse. It feels like a membrane. It doesn’t feel mechanical at all compared to the original. The keys are squishy for what’s supposed to feel mechanical. The sound is very high pitch compared to the original, too. I love the height of the key caps, the magnetic wrist rest, etc. But the keys feels bad. Said wrist rest will for sure start to peel as well, and, if the rest of my experience with Razer is any indicator, sooner rather than later. If you want something pretty with RGB and you’re on a budget, and you can get this on sale… it’s okay. But if you can, customize your own mechanical keyboard, because Razer just isn’t it anymore.

7.HyperX Alloy Elite 2 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard HX Red (Black)

Overall decent for the price (and very good for the $90 i spent for it) with some minor gripes Pros: -good hyperx switches and pleasant quiet typing -quite responsive and light presses register just fine -minimal ping noise, 10x better than the corsair k70 RGB Pro which had metal ping on every keystroke, horrifying -sturdy body and well built -media keys are convenient -font on keys is not embarrassing but respectable -epic lights (idc about RGB but i can recognize when something is pretty) -software is simple to use with 1 major flaw (see cons) Cons: -the cord is very thick, personally not a fan -pass through USB port is pointless since you have to plug in 2 USBs to the PC for the pass through to work. i don’t do this so there is a useless USB cord just hanging there while the main one for the keyboard is plugged in -the software for lighting preset is pure suffering. you have to close the program completely to use the dedicated button to switch between presets. so to change colors you can either choose it within the program OR close it completely via task manager and use the physical button. if you are confused right now so am i -less built-in patterns than others -keys attract oil so don’t be filthy

8.SteelSeries Apex 3 RGB Gaming Keyboard

Beware of most of the “hybrid” keyboards out there… many of them are straight up cheap membrane keyboards with a noisemaker built into the key to make the “clicky” noise. That’s not what the Apex 5 does. The switches are legit spring loaded mechanicals on the top end and they have that satisfying “blue” click and feel at first… but they don’t bottom out hard like true mechanicals. They have a nice soft finish due to the membrane on the bottom end. I’m a bit of a keyboard gypsy, never staying with one model for long. I bought an Apex 5 about a year ago, used it for 6-7 months and then built my own custom board with Panda switches. The Apex 5 went to my son. About 5 months after I gave it to my son, his PC had some issues… so I was working on it for an hour or two one night… and I realized how much I missed the truly unique typing feel of the Steelseries hybrid blue configuration. I went to Microcenter the next day I bought myself another Apex 5. The Panda switches were great, but they bottom out hard and loud. This one has a certain smoothness in long typing sessions that I haven’t found in a true mechanical. So this Apex 5 hybrid is a perfect balance for me, obviously your mileage may vary. Pros: – I personally love what Steelseries did with the hybrid approach – lots of customization and effects options with the RGB lighting out of the box, even more with the Steelseries software (but the software is also a con, see below) – rigid metal chassis, just feels quality / well built – keycaps are removable / replaceable for further customization Cons: – Steelseries software doesn’t * require * a unique account as of now, but they seem to be heading that direction… it’s approaching bloatware. – The magnetic wrist rest has a matte finish that shows every bit of schmutz and the surface wears rather quickly – The OLED screen is a bit gimmicky, would like to see a cheaper version without this teeny screen. Overall, this is the best keyboard I’ve ever owned for under $100… and I’ve owned it twice. I’ve built custom keyboards that cost twice as much and I still find the Apex 5 to be the most satisfying for regular typing work.

10.Razer Huntsman Mini Optical Gaming Keyboard Clicky Purple Switch US Mercury PS

I feel like I hit the Jackpot with this keyboard. Its so hard to find white components for PC’s that are high Quality. The Razer Huntsman Mini carries the brand’s standout optical mechanical switch keyboard. With each key’s light feel accompanied by premium double shot PBT keycaps, it can be great for both gaming and typing. I will have to advise against installing the Razer software. You can simply activate gaming mode by pressing function key +U. The Razer software has A few bugs that need to be straitened out before I will attempt to re-install. A lot of people compare this to the Ducky 2 MINI, Since I snagged this from Best Buy for half the price of the Ducky 2 mini and this being an all white keyboard vs the blue enter Key on the ducky II I figured this decision was A no-Brainer. Even if the ducky II mini did not have the blue key I would of went with Razer regardless. Using Razer mechanical keyboards at work and at home with clicky optical keys keys is perfect with me. I feel that Razer keyboards have build quality that are built to last If you feel the need for that .15 MS faster response time to compensate for your slow reaction time when playing Apex or War Zone then by all means get the linear switch version. I find this keyboard to be more then enough for my needs. Even after 2 weeks I am able to navigate fine when writing code without having the standard arrow key’s.
